Seattle is hotter than…

Apr 30, 2014, 12:15 PM | Updated: May 1, 2014, 7:52 am

Congratulations Seattle, you’re warmer than many other traditionally hot cities in America on Wednesday.

According to an afternoon check of Weather Underground, Seattle, at 78 degrees, is warmer than:

Honolulu – 70
Dallas – 67
Kansas City – 53
Atlanta – 69
St. Louis – 56
Salt Lake City – 64
Baton Rouge – 69
Little Rock – 55
Houston – 72
Nashville – 73
Tallahassee – 68

Las Vegas was 72 degrees around 11am PST (Seattle at 74), but later climbed to 81. Tuscon was the same temp as Seattle earlier Wednesday, but has reached 81.

The National Weather Service says temperatures could hover in the low 80s, which could set records in western Washington and Oregon before things start to cool off Friday as clouds return for the weekend.

Forecasters and emergency responders are warning Northwest residents to be careful around rivers and lakes as temperatures rise.

While the sunshine brings people outside, the Weather Service says rivers fed by melting snow are around 45-to-50 degrees. People who jump or fall in could be immobilized by cold water shock or suffer from hypothermia. They also could be swept away in fast-moving currents.

In addition, warming has raised the avalanche danger for the west slopes of the Washington Cascades and the Mount Hood area.
