After being closed for construction since Sept. 7, the Seattle Center Monorail is officially open again and ready to transport event attendees to and from Climate Pledge Arena.

Seattle’s Monorail is still here, and it’s taking you to Climate Pledge Arena

In early 2020, Seattle Monorail Services announced a partnership with NHL Seattle, making it a “key transportation partner” for the new arena. The private capital investments at Westlake Station made since the announced partnership have included doubling the system capacity, improving accessibility, and better connecting the Monorail with the regional transit networks.

This week, Oct. 11-17, the Monorail will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Starting Oct. 18, it will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The hours of operations will be extended when there are events at Climate Pledge Arena to provide transportation to and from the events.

The Climate Pledge Arena’s grand opening will be Oct. 19 for a Coldplay concert. Then, on Oct. 23, the Seattle Kraken will play their first home game at the new arena. In the future, it will host concerts and large events, and will be the home arena for the Kraken and the Seattle Storm.

Will riders use Monorail after $7 million investment from NHL Seattle?

The Monorail travels from Westlake Center Mall to Seattle Center and takes about 2 minutes to get from one platform to the other.

As of May 2020, Monorail is no longer accepting cash, but riders can purchase tickets at either station from the cashiers with a credit card, or can now use an ORCA card as fare payment.
