Seattle Police: Man threatened to kill referees at girls soccer game

Nov 4, 2013, 4:17 PM | Updated: 4:36 pm

Sure, parents get a little fired up over a bad call at their kid’s soccer game. But police say a man crossed the line with a death threat last weekend.

Seattle Police say the man confronted a referee about a call made during a game between two middle school teams at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

Police say he remained cordial, but things got out of control when a different referee took over in the second half of the game.

The man became enraged at both referees when one of the teams was awarded a game-winning penalty kick. According to police, the man hurled slurs at the referees, threatened them, and told one of them he planned to kill him “when you walk out that stadium door.”

One of the referees called police when he got home. He said he didn’t know the man, but believed he was the parent of a girl on one of the teams.
