Seattle police shot and killed a homicide suspect, who they say opened fire on them Tuesday night.

Police said just before 9:30 p.m., they were responding to a report of a shooting in the 2300 block of Massachusetts Street, outside the Northwest African American Museum. Additional callers reported seeing a man firing a gun in the same area. Officers heard multiple shots fired once they arrived on scene, then the suspect walked toward the officers, raised his firearm, and fired, according to the SPD Blotter post about the incident.

Officers returned fire, hitting the shooter. Some officers provided aid, while others searched for additional victims. In the museum’s parking lot, officers found two other people with multiple gunshot wounds. The Seattle Fire Department arrived to take over emergency care, the SPD says, and declared the suspect deceased. Both victims were transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. One of the two victims has died, and the second is critically injured.

All lanes in all directions were blocked to traffic.

The Crime Scene Investigation Squad responded to process the scene, and detectives from the Homicide Unit are investigating. The Force Investigation Team will investigate the officer-involved shooting.
