People gathered at Westlake Park in downtown Seattle on Saturday afternoon to protest the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
The Seattle Times reports the crowd chanted, “No justice, no seat.” Many attending had a simple message about the upcoming election in November. Signs read: “We won’t forget – 11/2/2018,”Tick … Tock…,” “Believe women,” and “Vote.”
Protesters planned to march to the federal building.
In Washington D.C., Kavanaugh was sworn in Saturday night as the 114th justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
The justices themselves made a quiet show of solidarity. Kavanaugh was sworn in by Chief Justice John Roberts and the man he’s replacing, retired Justice Anthony Kennedy, as fellow Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elena Kagan looked on — two conservatives and two liberals.
Earlier Saturday, the Senate voted 50-48 to confirm Kavanaugh. Protesters soon gathered and chanted outside the court building across the street from the Capitol.
President Trump took notice and tweeted:
The crowd in front of the U.S. Supreme Court is tiny, looks like about 200 people (& most are onlookers) – that wouldn’t even fill the first couple of rows of our Kansas Rally, or any of our Rallies for that matter! The Fake News Media tries to make it look sooo big, & it’s not!
