The Scripps National Spelling Bee has announced its 2021 spellers, and the list includes a 14-year-old from Seattle.

Dahyun Jung, who also goes by Claire, is in 8th grade at Tyee Middle School. In addition to her impressive spelling skills, she’s played violin since she was 6 years old.

Claire will compete against 208 other super-spellers in the preliminaries on June 12. The final competition is on July 8.

To be eligible for the spelling bee, the speller must not have passed beyond the eighth grade and must not have reached their 15th birthday as of Aug. 31, 2020. Previous winners are not allowed to compete again.
