After almost 10 straight days of rain, the Seattle area will once again get an uncommon streak of sunny weather in November.

Seattle approaches record streak of rain-free days

Starting on Nov. 9, Seattle began a streak of near-constant rain culminating on Tuesday, Nov. 19. That date is significant — on average, Nov. 19 is the rainiest day of the whole year in Seattle.

According to the National Weather Service, it’s rained on that date 93 times since records started in the 1890s, or 74 percent of the time.

Seattle can expect sunny skies in the days ahead, though, with mostly clear weather in the forecast between late Tuesday and Friday. To top it all off, temperatures will mostly sit in the upper 40s and mid 50s for the rest of the week.

November’s run of dry weather has been far from typical, with the month usually marking the second rainiest of the year in Seattle on average. Oct. 25 kicked off a near-record 14-day dry streak that bled into into the first week of the next month.

Dry weather stalls promise of November snow

According to the National Weather Service, it’s been 43 years since there’s been no measurable rainfall in the first week of November in Seattle. In total, there had been just three other years when that happened: 1976, 1957, and 1952.
