Seattle teachers have voted to join other school districts around the state that are striking over the lack of education funding from the state Legislature.

Educators will not be in class on Tuesday, May 19.

Jonathan Knapp, the president of the Seattle Education Association, told KIRO Radio about 85 percent of its membership voted Monday in favor of a walkout.

He said he expects teachers and students will have to make up that missed day.

“It’s time for reasonable class sizes and caseloads, and for livable wages!” the SEA posted on its Facebook page.

June 15 is currently the last day of school for Seattle students, according to the district’s calendar.
