What a difference four months can make. Where there was once a mega-machine, is now filled with concrete and steel to form the new Seattle tunnel.

The Washington State Department of Transportation compressed four months worth of video into about a minute and a half, showing the disassembly pit where Bertha emerged and was torn apart. This was the destination for Bertha — once the world’s largest boring machine. Now, crews have filled in the pit with passages and two levels of roadway.
The tunnel work continues under downtown. The latest forecast has the tunnel slated to open in the fall of 2018.
