Crews at the Space Needle in Seattle are getting the final touches in place for a big New Year’s Eve fireworks show.

Workers have spent the last few days placing thousands of charges on the top and the sides of the Seattle landmark.

“It’s an eight minute musically choreographed show,” says Dave Mandapat, the Director of Marketing at the Space Needle. “It’s really hard to put a number on the number of effects, there’s more than ever, but it numbers in the thousands and thousands of effects.”

The weather forecast indicates it will likely be a dry show. Mandapat says as long as winds are under 35 miles an hour the show will go on.

Mandapat says this year’s show will have some improvements on years past with a higher range on some of the effects and new smokeless fireworks which will keep smoke trails from obscuring the colorful blasts.

“It should be a dramatically different show from years past,” says Mandapat. “The Needle is visible from so many different points. You can watch it from anywhere and get a pretty good show.”
