A semi-truck overturned on I-5 through Everett and spilled lumber across the southbound direction of the freeway Friday morning.
Two right lanes of southbound I-5 at Pacific Avenue were blocked over the morning commute. Those lanes reopened by 8:30 a.m. The on-ramp from Pacific Avenue was also closed.

The lumber spill was the result of a chain reaction that initially began when two cars collided on the freeway shortly after 6 a.m.
“A passenger vehicle changed lanes, possibly clipping another passenger vehicle, that original car started spinning out of control,” said Washington State Trooper Heather Axtman.
Axtman says that the collision grew to involve three vehicles and the semi-truck.
“Somewhere in that initial crash, the semi unfortunately got tangled into it and rolled over, down an embankment from southbound I-5 onto Pacific,” she said. “The truck and the trailer have disconnected, losing its load of lumber across the on ramp from Pacific, so that on ramp will be shut down for an extended period of time.”
No life-threatening injuries were reported; one passenger was transported to a local hospital. The semi-driver suffered more significant injures, however, and may have a concussion.
Two cars had minor damages, the third car sustained significant damage. No fuel was spilled onto the roadway.
KIRO Radio reports that the crash caused a ripple effect across traffic in the area. A three-mile backup formed on westbound Highway 2 as drivers headed into a lane closure at the scene. Highway 204 backed up to Highway 9. Southbound Highway 9 backed up coming out of Lake Stevens. A seven mile backup also formed on southbound I-5.

Heading south out of Marysville? Bail at 529 and take it into Everett. Broadway is slow but much better than I5.
