After 28 years representing Washington state in Washington, D.C., democratic Senator Patty Murray announces she’s running for reelection.

Sen. Murray reintroduces child care act to help providers, families

Senator Murray says her priorities are the same now as when she got into politics more than four decades ago, which is to fight for the needs of families in Washington.

“I got my start in politics because someone told me I couldn’t make a difference — I was just a mom in tennis shoes,” she says as part of her campaign launch video.

“I ran to be a voice in the other Washington for the people of our state and to fight for workers and families dealing with the same challenges as mine did: like health care, education, and opportunity,” she added.

Right now, Murray has one challenger after Eastern Washington Republican Tiffany Smiley announced her campaign last month. Smiley is a nurse and nationally known as a veteran’s rights activist.

Senator Murray currently serves as the Chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, and also serves as a senior member of the Senate Appropriations, Budget, and Veteran Affairs Committees.
