Shoreline collapsed construction trench kills 2

Recovery efforts will continue Tuesday morning after a trench collapsed Monday in Shoreline, killing two men.
Shoreline Fire and Rescue report the bodies remain trapped and the incident has become a recovery effort.
The men’s bodies were buried under at least three feet of earth, Michelle Pidduck with Shoreline Fire Department reports.

“For every foot that somebody’s buried, it takes upwards of an hour to even dig them out. There’s a difference between a rescue and then retrieval. And a lot of times when these things happen, it’s not a rescue,” a rescue worker told KIRO 7 TV’s Gwen Baumgardner.
Michelle Pidduck with the Shoreline Fire Department says the men were private employees, and she does not know who hired them. Permitting records with the city indicate that a resident was replacing part of a collapsed sewer on private property, the Associated Press reports.
A chaplin remains at the scene to comfort the families.
