Sister who helped Lakewood cop killer accomplice gets early release

The sister of the man who killed four Lakewood police
officers was released from prison Monday after
serving about half of her five year sentence.
LaTanya Clemmons was convicted of driving her
boyfriend Darkus Allen to a hotel and spending $39 so he
could spend the night and lay low while the police looked
for him after her brother Maurice Clemmons opened fire on
the officers in a Parkland coffee shop in November 2009.
Clemmons, 37, was able to take advantage of a now-expired
state law that allows some defendants to be released after
serving 50 percent of their sentences if they showed good
behavior.
In a statement to Q13, the Lakewood Police department
expressed disappointment with the release.
“We (LPD) have just been made aware that LaTanya
Clemmons
is being released early and has been serving some of her
time in a work release facility. We are disappointed that
LaTanya Clemmons is not being required to serve out the
full
term of her five year sentence for her involvement in the
case involving the murder of our four officers.
