‘I think my landlord and my neighbor are hiding her’: Vashon Island woman says 350-pound pig was stolen over political dispute

Jul 22, 2026, 6:39 PM

Julia Carlson’s 350-pound pig Brida was stolen from her Vashon Island property on the busiest weekend of the year, while her family was at the Strawberry Festival, after someone cut through her enclosure with a saw, trashed nearby chicken coops, and corralled the animal into a waiting trailer.

Carlson told “The Jake and Spike Show” on KIRO Newsradio she believes the theft was orchestrated by her landlord and a neighbor who have been harassing her family for months over her political affiliation.

“It kind of stems back to the November of 2025 timeframe,” Carlson said. “So this has been a long going things didn’t just happen overnight. Once our neighborhood and our landlord found out that we voted differently, it kind of changed things. We started getting harassed. It just got worse and worse and worse.”

Neighbor threatens Carlson’s pet pig

Carlson said in March, her neighbor knocked on her door, and when she answered, he started screaming in her face and threatening Brida.

“He was screaming at me, saying, ‘I’m going to use my pew pew. I’m going to unalive her,'” Carlson said.

She said her neighbor also threatened to hire a crew to remove Brida and do whatever was necessary.

“So obviously the police were called,” Carlson said. “But during that whole altercation, my landlord was standing behind my neighbor filming with like a really silly grin.”

Carlson believes the harassment started with her landlord, who she said used the neighbor as a weapon against her family. When asked whether her landlord had any grounds to object to Brida being on the property, Carlson said there were never any issues, noting that her landlord previously ran a pig farm in Texas.

“We both came from Texas. She actually used to have a pig farm in Texas, and she was like, the pig is the least of my concerns with having any kind of tenant,” she explained.

Carlson believes Brida is still on Vashon Island

Carlson said after talking with police and the community, she believes Brida is still on Vashon Island.

“I think my landlord and my neighbor and their friends, or a group of them, are hiding her somewhere because everybody on the island has 10 acres,” she said. “There’s plenty of spaces to hide her if you wanted to hide her and not be seen.”

Anyone who sees Brida or knows where she might be is asked to contact the King County Sheriff’s Office.
