Slim chance of lowland snow in Western Washington

Don’t get too excited about lowland snow this week.
Jay Nair with the National Weather Service in Seattle says there isn’t much chance for snow for people living in areas at less than 500 feet elevation.
“There’s a chance that the showers could be rain, could be snow, could be mixed,” he explained. However, the lowlands will most likely see rains showers, he added.
Nair says the greatest chance for snow in Western Washington is around Everett or further north.
According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, a shifting low pressure system Monday night is expected to push the snow level down to about 1,000 feet across Western Washington.
Colder air moving in from British Columbia on Tuesday morning could force the snow level even lower to sea level in northern areas of the region.
University of Washington climatologist Cliff Mass says in his blog that temperatures will be too warm for snow in the lowlands on Monday, but higher terrain will get several inches up to half of a foot before the Tuesday morning commute.
If the forecasting models are off by a few hundred miles, then a few inches of snow in Seattle is possible. But Mass says that’s unlikely at this point.
KING 5 Meteorologist Jeff Renner said that snow could fall across the Puget Sound region Monday night and into Tuesday morning. It’s a “possibility, not a probability.”
