A small plane crashed on the west side of Paine Field in Everett Thursday afternoon, killing the pilot.
The pilot was the sole occupant, according to a spokesperson at the scene.
The general-aviation aircraft went down in a wooded area off the runway. A fire engulfed the aircraft.
The plane crashed around 3 p.m. Paine Field Fire and additional fire units responded to the scene. Crews searched the area for anyone who may have been aboard and anyone who might have been on the ground.
The spokesperson thanked local firefighters for assisting with the “very sad, unfortunate incident.”
All Paine Field staff have been accounted for. The spokesperson noted the plane was not involved with the flight school.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been informed. NTSB will investigate the cause of the crash, while the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the pilot’s identity and the cause and manner of death.
