Western Washington thaws out after early November freeze

Nov 3, 2017, 5:55 AM | Updated: Jan 25, 2018, 1:02 pm

Freezing conditions are making way for more tolerable weather in the Puget Sound region.

After the region experienced its second snowfall of November on Sunday, temperatures have began to return to normal.

KIRO 7 Meteorologist Nick Allard says while things will stay cool, it won’t be nearly as cold as it was over the weekend. The Greater Seattle area should expect temperatures to hover in the low- to mid-40s during the day on Monday and Tuesday. It will be at least partly sunny.

Rain is expected to return Wednesday.

Meanwhile, more than 650 Puget Sound Energy customers remained without power late Monday morning. Power was knocked out to more than 2,000 after frigid temperatures brought down branches and power lines on Sunday.

Only one school was reportedly running on a two-hour delay on Monday morning.

Check for school closings

Forecasters say the cold air that caused the freeze funneled out of British Columbia and met up with a Pacific system, creating perfect conditions for the region’s second snowfall in just three days.

Check the mountain pass cams

KIRO 7 Meteorologist Kelly Franson warns that while sunshine has returned, but it will still be chilly with temperatures at or below freezing in the lowlands. Roadways could be icy.
