Update: KIRO 7 Meteorologist Tiffany Sanders says we could see a few snow flurries just in time for kickoff on Saturday when the Seahawks face the Detroit Lions.

However, don’t expect any accumulation on the field at CenturyLink.

Snow during the Seahawks’ playoff game against the Detroit Lions on Saturday is in the realm of possibility.

Forecasts are calling for temperatures as low as 31 degrees and as high as 38 degrees. KIRO 7 Meteorologist Morgan Palmer says there will be a chance of snow around Puget Sound as the temperature warms back up.

“All indications are that a southwesterly flow will begin to warm up the atmosphere from the top down on Saturday as precipitation moves in from the coast later in the day or Saturday night,” Palmer said. “We can expect a period of wintry weather before we warm to all rain in the lowlands.”

However, the timing of the change and how quickly it occurs is up in the air.

It is expected to remain relatively dry in the Puget Sound lowlands through the week. By the time more precipitation arrives this weekend, the National Weather Service says that it will likely be warmer, not giving much of a chance for snow accumulation before the transition to rain.

“It is too early to say how much — if any — snow accumulation might occur before the switch over occurs,” the Weather Service reports. “But models are in pretty good agreement that this changeover process is rather fast.”

There are some exceptions, which include the Hood Canal area, Western Whatcom county and east lowlands and foothills near the Cascades.

But Palmer says the possibility of snow during the Hawks game shouldn’t be completely ruled out at this point.

The 10-5-1 Seahawks face the 9-7 Detroit Lions at 5:30 p.m. at CenturyLink Field.
