South Seattle building fire extinguished

A fire at a commercial building in South Seattle early Wednesday morning prompted a large response from Seattle firefighters and temporarily shut down traffic along 4th Avenue S.
According to the Seattle Fire Department (SFD), crews were dispatched to an address along 4th Avenue S at around 5:15 a.m. and found a working fire inside a commercial building.
Meanwhile, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) reported that all northbound and southbound lanes of 4th Avenue S between S Michigan Street and E Marginal Way South were blocked while crews worked to extinguish the fire. Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes.
Firefighters quickly got water on the fire and got it under control while crews checked for possible extension.
After completing primary and secondary searches of the building and confirming that no one was injured, crews set up ventilation equipment to clear smoke from the structure as they worked to extinguish any remaining hot spots.
The fire was fully extinguished by 5:35 a.m. and did not spread to other units in the building, SFD reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
