SPD stomp officer faces new lawsuit

Feb 14, 2012, 5:28 AM | Updated: 8:28 am

The Seattle Police Department is facing another lawsuit by a man claiming excessive force, and the officer involved has been in trouble before.

Officer Shandy Cobane is being sued by David Rengo for his arrest that came before the infamous SPD stomp incident. Rengo claims Officer Cobane choked him so severely he almost passed out after a fight in Belltown.

KIRO TV reports Rengo says the police department covered up his claims of abuse, protecting Officer Cobane, and it tried to prosecute him for assault.

The lawsuit also alleges official misconduct.

Officer Cobane, Chief John Diaz, SPD and the city are all named as defendants.
