The union representing more than 20,000 Boeing engineers and technical workers is recommending they reject its contract offer from the company.

Calling the offer a full scale assault on engineers and technical workers, SPEEA’s union leaders have sent the contract to members urging a no vote. They believe that will send a strong message to the company to get back to the table and present an offer that “respects our contributions.”

Boeing is offering the engineers a 3-percent raise each year for four years. The technical workers would get a 2-percent bump a year. The ballots will be counted October 1. The current contract expires five days later.

The average engineers salary is $110,000. For technical workers, it’s $79,000.

The union has only been on strike twice in its history. One strike lasted a day. The other lasted more than a month.
