State lawmakers allowed to accept free US Open tickets

...

State lawmakers may have just received another perk of the job.

Decision makers in Olympia have been offered free tickets to the US Open golf tournament at Chambers Bay in University Place in June.

Washington’s ethics board voted Tuesday to reaffirm a previous decision, allowing lawmakers to accept the free tickets despite a policy that bars politicians from accepting gifts valued at $50 or more. The legislators will be allowed to accept the tournament tickets on the reasoning that they will be able to observe developments at the site during the games.

Tickets initially sold by the USGA were priced from $50 to $1,875.

The US Open is expected to attract more than 200,000 tourist to the Seattle area.
