The Center School in Seattle was evacuated after a 16-year-old student brought an incendiary device to school Monday morning.
Seattle Police say the school, located in the 300 block Harrison St., was evacuated as a precaution. A bomb and arson squad searched the building, which is the old armory at Seattle Center. Students of the small 9-through-12 school gathered at the former Fun Forest until classes were cancelled for the day.
“We are considering the scene here safe and under control,” Seattle Police Detective Drew Fowler said late in the morning.
Another student spotted the device and notified security, according to Fowler.
The Seattle School District tweeted: “The Center School evacuated after student brought Molotov cocktail. No injuries. @SeattlePD and @SeattleFire investigating.”
The Center School is a small arts and college prep public school with about 300 students.
Detectives plan to book the suspect into the King County Youth Service Center for possession of an incendiary device.
