Summer making one last hurrah in Seattle area

Sep 19, 2014, 6:30 PM | Updated: Sep 22, 2014, 11:30 am

One of the best Seattle-area summers on record is going out appropriately, with sunny skies and near record temperatures.

The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s on Saturday, with even more sunshine and highs in the 80s Sunday, says National Weather Service meteorologist Ted Buehner.

The Seattle area has recorded 45 days of 80 degree or higher temperatures this summer, the third warmest in history, and there’s a chance we could tie the warmest-ever if high temps linger into Monday.

“We’ve had a lot of high pressure parked over the west, it just hasn’t moved much all summer,” Buehner says.

Surprisingly, we have had above-normal rain this summer. But Buehner says most of it fell in quick bursts during several deluges.

Sadly, all good things come to an end, especially when it comes to the weather around here.

The long-term forecast calls for rain to move in by Wednesday, with highs dropping into the 60s. And Buehner says the spigot will likely stay on through at least next weekend.

“The warm temperatures and sunny skies, those days are pretty numbered,” he says.
