After construction on the Hilltop Tacoma Link Extension halted service of the T Line between the Tacoma Dome and Commerce Street Station on July 31, train service officially restarted Tuesday.

Officials say that service will run as usual between Tacoma Dome and Commerce Street Station for the remainder of the construction project.

Local businesses hurting as Tacoma Link extension construction drags on

“Crews continue to work on the Hilltop Tacoma Link Extension with round-the-clock and nighttime construction activity. This work includes out-of-service train testing and rail grinding,” according to the Sound Transit update released yesterday.

The trains run every 12 minutes on weekdays and Saturdays during most of the day, with trains running every 24 minutes in the early morning before 6:30 a.m. and late evening after 8:00 p.m. They run every 24 minutes all day Sunday.

Construction brings the expansions of six new link rail stations, more than doubling the length of track in Tacoma, and is set to begin service next year. The new stations will service important, popular destinations such as the Stadium District, Wright Park, and significant medical facilities before reaching the new Hilltop neighborhood terminus.

The next major closure from the construction will shut down MLK Jr. Way at S. 14th, Earnest S Brazil, and S 10th streets as crews install drainage infrastructure. Still, the construction is only expected to take six days and will be completed before the end of October.

You can see full details of upcoming closures and where construction is happening on the Sound Transit website.
