T-Mobile boss abruptly quits

The CEO of Bellevue-based T-Mobile USA has abruptly
resigned
from the post he has held the past two years. In a formal
statement, the company says Philipp Humm resigned to
pursue
a career outside of parent company Deutsche Telekom “so as
to reunite with his family, which stayed back in Europe”
after he moved to Bellevue.
In an internal note to employees obtained by GeekWire, Rene
Obermann, CEO of Deutsche Telekom, says quick notice was
“because of his new employer, Philipp, informed me a few
days
ago that he will be joining a competitor of Deutsche
Telekom,” Obermann writes.
Humm, who took over as T-Mobile USA CEO in November 2010,
led the company through the unsuccessful acquisition bid
by
AT&T, and had been overseeing its turnaround effort since
that acquisition fell apart in the face of regulatory
opposition. He will be replaced on an interim basis by
chief
operating officer Jim Alling while a search is undertaken
for a permanent replacement.
The company would not say which rival company Humm would
be joining.
