After seven years as T-Mobile’s CEO, John Legere announced Monday that he would be stepping down from the role.

T-Mobile promises consumer benefits if Sprint deal OK’d

Legere’s contract will have him in charge through April 2020. Current president and COO Mike Sievert will then step in to fill the role on May 1. Legere will remain on T-Mobile’s board, and will be involved with the pending acquisition of Sprint.

Legere labeled the move “all part of a multi-year plan” on Twitter, noting that he’s “not going anywhere soon,” while emphatically endorsing Sievert as his successor.

Throughout his tenure at T-Mobile, Legere was known for devising and promoting the company’s “un-carrier” strategy for customers, eschewing with customer service contracts to set it apart from its competitors.

There are rumors he could soon be tagged to take over as CEO of WeWork, after the office-share company’s former CEO Adam Neumann was forced out in the wake of a disastrous attempted public offering.
