Tacoma Dome naming rights pitched again

Jun 19, 2013, 5:36 AM | Updated: 8:35 am

The Tacoma Dome is up for sale, or at least the naming rights. The city is trying again to draw a corporate sponsorship to help pay for renovations.

Tacoma has tried and failed twice in the last ten years to strike a sponsorship deal for the Dome, but it is trying again. The News Tribune reports the city began taking bids for potential naming rights and advertising this week. Any potential deal could include naming rights, concourse signage or the selling of specific food items at concessions.

The deal would also include the convention center.

Comcast nearly put its name on the Dome in 2003, but the public hated the idea that Tacoma would be taken out of the name of the 30-year-old dome.

The city pitched naming rights to Tacoma Public Utilities in 2009, but the utility wasn’t interested.

Any potential name change would have to be approved by the public.
