When it comes to the “gayest city in America,” Washington is home to the preeminent LGBT magazine’s pick, Tacoma.
‘The Advocate’ admits the criteria to become the gayest city isn’t quite scientific. They developed a point system based on LGBT elected officials, the HRC corporate equality index, “fabulous shopping,” transgender protections, gay rugby teams, roller derby leagues, bi-sexual resource groups and marriage equality.
Oh, and points were awarded if a city hosted concerts from any of the following groups or acts: Scissor Sisters, Uh Huh Her, Girl in a Coma, and cast of Glee.
Tacoma scored the highest on the number of LGBT public officials, anti-discrimination laws, and roller derby leagues.
The recent legalization of gay marriage helped boost the city’s points as well.
Tacoma beat out Seattle, who came in fifth on the list, and Spokane who came in third.
San Francisco barely made the list at 17.
