Taking Pronto to new heights: Tourist gives bike share BMX treatment

Jun 13, 2016, 4:10 PM

Two cyclists took Pronto! bikes on a stunt tour of Seattle and caught the trip on video.

Nicholas Soloninka, of Colorado, captured video of local bike trickster Steven Bafus touring Seattle via a hop, skip and a jump using Pronto!, the city’s bike-share program. The bike share boasts a fleet of beach-cruiser style rides aimed at tourists, commuters, and downhill enthusiasts.

Soloninka likes to chronicle his adventures mixed with his fervor for bikes and added his Seattle trip to his series of Youtube videos. The cycling pair took the bikes to a local skate park for some higher jumps. Usually, BMX-style bikes are used for such feats, but the two managed to get a little air out of the Pronto bikes.

While the Seattle Bike Blog admittedly finds the video “awesome,” it does point out that the antics might run afoul of Pronto’s user agreement.

You must not use a Pronto Cycle Share bicycle for racing, riding off road, or any use other than safe operation on public or private roads or property and designated bicycle routes.

The bike blog also notes that in 2013, someone died after taking a bike from Toronto’s bike share program, BIXI, to a skate park.
