In the first 16 weeks since same sex marriage has been legal in Washington state, nearly 2,500 couples have tied the knot.

The state Department of Health says the number represents more than 20 percent of the 11,661 marriages in Washington from Dec. 6 and March 31.

King County, the most populated county, had the most same sex marriages; one third of all marriages were same sex.

Four counties, Ferry, Asotin, Garfield, and Wahkiakum, have not reported same sex marriages so far.

Of the same sex couples married, most were female couples (63 percent). And 14 percent included couples where both spouses are not from Washington. About four percent of hetero-sexual couples married here are from another state.
