Three horses killed in collision with semi-trailer near Poulsbo

Dec 13, 2013, 1:02 PM | Updated: 1:25 pm

Three horses are dead and another seriously injured after a semi-truck struck them on State Route 3 north of Poulsbo just before 3 a.m. Friday morning.

The horses were walking on the roadway when the semi hit the animals as it passed Big Valley Road.

Trooper Russ Winger says three of the horses died at the scene. “The fourth one was taken to a vet and it’s got some serious injuries, but is expected to live.”

An investigation continues into how the horses got out and whether the driver was at fault in any way.

“We have some talking to do to the landlord and the horse owner to see what the whole situation is, but we haven’t made any determinations,” he said.
