Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputy, man injured in Yelm shooting

Detectives are investigating a shooting that left a Thurston County deputy and a man injured Friday night in Yelm.
The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened in the 16900 block of Holly Street Southeast, after the deputy was dispatched to a disturbance at a residence. According to the 911 caller, a man at the home was making threats.
Within two minutes of the deputy’s arrival on scene, she advised dispatch that shots had been fired and she had been stabbed.
Officers from the Yelm Police Department and other Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived and began rendering aid to both the deputy and suspect.
The deputy, a woman in her mid-30s, was transported to St. Peters Hospital where she is in serious but stable condition. The suspect, a male in his early 40s, was transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.
The Region 3 Critical Incident Investigation Team is investigating, which is comprised of investigators from Grays Harbor, Lewis, Pacific, Mason and Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Washington State Patrol. The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office will not be involved in this investigation.
