Tolls going up on Tacoma Narrows Bridge

Mar 9, 2012, 4:59 AM | Updated: 10:45 am

Tolls on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge will be going up this summer, but not by as much as expected thanks to a last minute deal from the Legislature.

Tolls are expected to go up by at least 90 cents for Good to Go users, a $1 for cash users and a $1.50 for pay by mail.

Those are the recommendations from a citizens committee. If approved by the state this month, they would go into effect July 1.

Tolls would likely have gone up by even more if the Legislature had not made a deal in the final hours of the session Thursday night.

Lawmakers voted to push off the sales tax on the bridge construction for another six years. That allowed the tolls to stay lower than they should have been.

The move likely kept tolls from increasing another 50 cents.
