Police in Tumwater say a man was so fed up with his impending divorce and the splitting of assets that he reached out to a hitman to kill his wife.
Detectives said the man started looking for someone to kill his wife of five years about three weeks ago. The man he found turned out to be a police informant.
Detectives started watching the 44-year-old husband and recording his conversations with the informant. Detective Jen Kolb told KING-5 they decided not to wait to arrest him.
“It was very clear he was serious about this,” Kolb said. “We didn’t want him continuing to try and solicit somebody, whether it be my source or another avenue to follow through on this crime.”
The man is expected in court Wednesday.
His intended victim said she’s sickened by the arrest and doesn’t know why her husband would go to such an extreme. “When I think of everything, my heart just sinks into my stomach,” she said. “It’s sad.”
