Two young orca whales born in the summer now have names.

The Whale Museum on Whidbey Island announced on Friday that J57 will be known as Phoenix and J58 will be called Crescent.

“Thank you to everyone who nominated names and to all who voted and helped make this momentous decision,” the museum tweeted.

Phoenix was born in early September to J25, or Tahlequah. Phoenix has an older brother, J47 or Notch.

Tahlequah is the female orca that gained national attention in 2018 for carrying her dead calf hundreds of miles over the course of 17 days.

Crescent, or J58, was also born to the J pod in September. The mother is J41 or Eclipse. Crescent also has an older brother, J51 or Nova.

You can read more about each orca in the Southern Resident pods (J,K, and L) from the Whale Museum here.
