KENT, Wash. (AP) — Officials say a 27-year-old King County jail inmate has been found dead in his cell at the regional justice center in the south Seattle suburb of Kent.

Jail staffers found the Burien man unresponsive in his single-person cell on Friday evening. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

The inmate was not immediately identified.

The man was booked into jail April 28 on a felony warrant.

The King County medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death. Kent police will investigate the death and so will county detention officials working with the public health department.

He is the second Washington inmate that was found dead Monday.

A Spokane County sheriff’s spokesman says an inmate has been found dead in his county jail cell with a sheet around his neck.

Deputy Mark Gregory said the inmate found dead Monday afternoon was housed alone in the cell.

Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the death.

Gregory said the inmate’s name would be released by the county medical examiner’s office.

Details on why he was in jail were not immediately available.
