Camano Island chase: Undocumented immigrant rams federal cars, injures 2 agents

A Mexican citizen living illegally in Stanwood was charged with two counts of assault on a federal officer in U.S. District Court in Seattle.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Enforcement Removal Operations (ERO), U.S. Border Patrol, and Customs and Border Protection’s Air and Marine Operations (CBP AMO) have all been in pursuit of Victor Vivanco-Reyes, 25, after he injured two law enforcement officials in an intentional car collision.
According to a criminal complaint, HSI Special Agents attempted to locate Vivanco-Reyes in the Mount Vernon area. When the agents spotted his vehicle in a residential area, they flashed their lights and activated their sirens to get Vivanco-Reyes to stop. Instead, Vivanco-Reyes drove off at a high rate of speed. The agents stopped pursuing him due to his reckless driving.

Approximately two weeks later, agents with HSI, ERO, the U.S. Border Patrol, and CBP AMO were able to locate Vivanco-Reyes in a work truck towing a trailer on Cascade View Drive on Camano Island.
“Using three different vehicles, the federal agents attempted to block the north and southbound lanes so that Vivanco-Reyes could be taken into custody,” the U.S. District Court stated in a release. “When the agents activated their lights, the truck and trailer accelerated right at one of the vehicles, hitting it on the front passenger side. Ultimately, the truck and trailer crashed head-on into another government car that was a short distance down the road. The truck continued on, driving into a ditch and hitting a power pole.”
Vivanco-Reyes tried to flee on foot, but was taken into custody. Two agents were injured in the collision and were taken to local hospitals.
Assault on a federal agent with a deadly weapon is punishable by a term of imprisonment of up to 20 years and a $250,000 fine. Vivanco-Reyes is currently detained, awaiting a hearing scheduled for June 13.
