US Marshals arrest suspect linked to murder near CHOP in Seattle last summer

U.S. Marshals arrested 19-year-old Marcel Long on Monday, in connection to the June 2020 murder of Lorenzo Anderson near the former Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP) zone.
Marshals arrested Long in Des Moises, Washington, and have since booked him into King County jail. A warrant was first issued for his arrest last August, after the King County Prosecutor’s Office filed a first degree murder charge with a firearm enhancement.
He had been at large ever since, until a regional violent offender task force received word that he was staying in a Des Moines apartment complex. Long was spotted by law enforcement walking along South 216 Street on Monday. After “a brief foot chase,” he was placed under arrest and transferred to Seattle Police Department custody.
Anderson was shot multiple times early on June 20, 2020. Witnesses say Seattle Fire and Seattle Police stood by and declined to assist the teen as he bled to death. A claim filed by Anderson’s family against the city cites a video posted on social media showing a man yelling at medics, “You guys could be saving this man’s life right now. … You could be saving his life. … Sir, please explain, what’s going on? He’s dying. He needs your help.”
Anderson was taken to Harborview Medical Center in a private vehicle. He later died at the hospital.
Police said they responded to the scene after reports of gun shots in the area. SPD said officers tried to find a shooting victim, but were met by a violent crowd that prevented them safe access to the victims. They were later informed that CHOP medics took Anderson and another victim to Harborview.
Bail for Long has been set at $2 million.
