Pomp and circumstance greeted the USS Nimitz Friday as the ship pulled into its new home port in Everett.
It docked leaving it’s former home port of San Diego, following sea trials and a year-long $239 million overhaul at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton.
The carrier brings 3,000 sailors and their family members to Snohomish County.
It replaces the Abraham Lincoln which left in December on deployment. It is then scheduled for major engine repairs in Virginia.
When the aircraft carrier pulled into Everett with its sailors were at attention surrounding the flight deck.
Two aircraft carriers remain at Bremerton. The USS Stennis returned to its home port last Friday from a seven-month deployment. And, the Ronald Reagan is starting an overhaul at the shipyard.
