It happened again. Another driver ran into the back of a Washington State Department of Transportation truck protecting a work zone on I-5.
This time it was on southbound I-5, just before the West Seattle Bridge, around 5 a.m. on Thursday.
What slows you down every day?
Washington State Trooper Chris Webb says “a rash” of state patrol cars, tow trucks, and state DOT trucks have been hit over the last few years.
The crash Thursday morning wasn’t life-threatening. But others in recent memory have been. For example, the driver of an SUV was killed after a crash in February on I-5 in Everett.
The State Patrol says 33 trooper vehicles were hit last year while dealing with issues on the roads. There have been 11 this year.
“A lot of it is probably driver inattention,” he said. “They’re not paying attention to what’s going on.”
