Volunteer teamwork saves small dog trapped in Roslyn crevice

Dec 2, 2025, 4:02 PM | Updated: 5:20 pm

A small dog named Coulee was rescued after becoming trapped in a narrow, 12-inch crevice about 20 feet deep in the Roslyn area on Monday.

The 30-pound dog’s retrieval brought together multiple local organizations and a coordinated rescue effort.

Rescue teams, including Washington State Animal Response Team (WASART) and Kittitas Search and Rescue (SAR), were already on the scene when additional responders arrived. The dog already had a makeshift catch pole around her neck, but it wasn’t secure, prompting rescuers to use ropes and poles to lift her safely.

Crews first created a loop to secure Coulee’s front and used a second loop to support her rear. The lift took roughly 20 seconds, allowing her to exit the crevice smoothly. Once freed, Coulee was returned to her owner and examined by a veterinarian on-site, who confirmed she was unharmed.

The owner responded to WASART’s post after the rescue, thanking everyone for their hard work and emphasizing how happy they are to have their friend home.

“Thank you so, so much for helping our pup. It was a very scary situation, and we’re endlessly grateful for everyone who helped save her,” Wrote Coulee’s owner. “Today, she is doing incredibly well, all things considered, and that’s thanks to your amazing nonprofit and volunteers.”

With Giving Tuesday approaching, local rescue groups are encouraging donations to help them respond to similar emergencies. For more information or to support local rescues, visit https://wasart.org/donate.
