A series of tornado warnings were issued Friday morning along the Washington coast by the National Weather Service.

The first was sent out at 5 a.m. for the coastal area near Jefferson County, just south of Olympic National Park and north of Kalaloch. That warning expired roughly 15 minutes later.

A second warning went out just before 8 a.m. for the area surrounding La Push, extending through 8:15 a.m. A third warning went out for the coastal area near Queets at 8:15 a.m., expiring at 8:30 a.m.

These warnings went out after early morning radar picked up on a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado, although no tornados have actually occurred on Friday. That was all part of what the NWS called “an active weather day” in Washington.

Thunderstorms along the coast are expected to persist throughout the day.

The NWS issued a Special Marine Warning from James Island to Point Grenville, warning of strong winds, steep waves, and a possible waterspout.
