Co-pays and deductibles for coronavirus testing waived in Washington

Washington Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler issued an emergency order Thursday, requiring the state’s health insurers to waive co-pays and deductibles for any required consumer testing for coronavirus.

Insurers must also allow a one-time early refill for prescription drugs so that patients don’t have to worry about running out while under potential quarantine.
Additionally, out-of-network providers for coronavirus treatment will be treated as in-network doctors, effective through May 4. After that, the state has the ability to renew the order for another 30 days “if it’s required.”
“I want to reassure the public that we’re here to assist them in any way we possibly can, and provide clear guidance in terms of what they have in the way of health insurance,” Kreidler said in a press conference.

Washington state health officials announced Thursday that the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Washington has ballooned to 70 people, including 51 in King County, 18 in Snohomish County, and the first case in Grant County.
