Waste Management faces $2M fine for strike in 2012

Apr 30, 2013, 8:52 AM | Updated: 8:57 am

Waste Management could face a $2.14 million fine for its reaction to last summer’s garbage strike.

The state utilities commission found the garbage collecting company failed to provide service to more than 135,000 customers in King and Snohomish Counties during the Teamsters in July and August of 2012.

The commission says Waste Management didn’t deploy enough replacement drivers and disproportionately sent the drivers they did have to cities, such as Seattle leaving county residents with garbage piling up.

The Everett Herald reports the company has 20 days to answer the complaint.
