Washington State Department of Transportation crews will be working on northbound I-5 to replace metal on expansion joints, reducing the freeway in that direction to just two lanes across the Duwamish River Bridges.

“Roadwork this weekend will back up northbound I-5 big time out of the south,” says KIRO Radio Traffic Reporter Tracy Taylor.

Work will begin at 10 p.m. Friday, and will extend through 11:59 p.m. Sunday. In total, work will close three lanes of northbound I-5 wil be blocked between the I-405/SR 518 interchange.

On-ramps for southbound I-405 HOV, Southcenter Boulevard, and Interurban Avenue South will also be closed. Expect alternate routes in Tukwila

This will be the second of two weeks of work on I-5 near Tukwila.

WSDOT is advising drivers this weekend to leave extra time for travel, especially for anyone headed to Sea-Tac International Airport.
