Whatcom County detective says colleague used AI to fabricate sexual video of her

A detective with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office filed a $30 million tort claim alleging a fellow detective created AI content specifically sexualizing her.
According to the tort claim, obtained by KIRO 7, a detective on the force allegedly fabricated images of the victim, once the lone female detective in the department, performing sexual acts on the suspect’s father. The AI-generated video was then shared with multiple officers in the department.
According to the victim, this incident is part of a long-standing hostile work environment. This specific incident allegedly occurred in April.
Multiple investigations into these claims are currently underway, as Whatcom County Sheriff Donnell Tanksley stated that accountability is paramount. The Mount Vernon Police Department is conducting one of these investigations.
The detective allegedly behind the video has been placed on paid leave, as of this reporting.
The Attorney General’s Office previously established a task force to address the misuse of AI. Using AI for misconduct can result in jail time and substantial fines.
