A woman is suing Costco for millions, USA Today reported Tuesday.

Sadie Novotny, from California, said a display heavy liquor cabinet fell on her at one of Costco’s stores, causing severe injuries, the media outlet stated.

Novotny suffered a traumatic brain injury, according to USA Today, citing the lawsuit.

She is now suing the retailer for more than $14 million, claiming negligence and accusing the company of failing to manage store merchandise properly, the media outlet reported. She is also suing for premises liability and product liability.

Woman suing Costco asks for $14 million

Novotny is asking for $5 million for emotional distress, $5 million for pain, suffering, and inconvenience, $2 million for future medical expenses, $2 million for loss of future earning capacity, $50,000 for medical expenses to date, $50,000 for loss of earnings to date, $10,000 for loss of household services.

Earlier this week, Costco announced it is testing a new checkout option in an effort to reduce long lines, Food and Wine Magazine reported. The new program would allow customers to pay through an app while shopping and show proof of purchase before leaving the store.
