Who voted more in Washington: men or women?

When it comes to who carries out their civic duty more, women voters showed up the men in Washington state during the 2016 election.

Of Washington’s 3,363,440 votes cast in the 2016 election, a total of 1,775,315 votes were cast by women voters. That’s nearly 200,000 more than the 1,575,543 votes submitted by men in Washington.

No matter what the age group, women voters led men in the 2016 election. Though, if it were divided up by age group, it seems the older the age demographic, the more votes, according to information released by the Washington Secretary of State Office.

• Ages 18-24: 128,170 female ballots; 107,546 male
• Ages 25-34: 256,996 female ballots; 221,441 male
• Ages 35-44: 269,064 female ballots; 241,463 male
• Ages 45-54: 306,602 female ballots; 284,604 male
• Ages 55-64: 361,201 female ballots; 325,173 male
• Ages 65+: 453,282 female ballots; 395,316 male

Democrat Hillary Clinton, and her running mate Tim Kaine, received the most votes in Washington state with 54.3 percent. That percentage echoes the gender voting gap nationally. Women voters supported Clinton nationally by 54 percent nationally. Republican Donald Trump, however, won the electoral college, and in turn the presidency. Though, Clinton won the national popular vote, garnering nearly 3 million more votes than Trump.
